Across the wider market the spread is much larger than this table. A freelancer installing a ready-made theme can come in at a few thousand taka; a large agency building a custom platform with its own design system can run to several lakh. Neither number is wrong — but they buy very different things, which is what the rest of this guide is about.

What are you actually paying for?
A website quote is mostly a quote for hours. The more of the items below your project needs, the more hours it takes — and that, not the agency's mood, is what moves the price.
DesignA ready-made theme with your logo and colours is fast. A design drawn for your brand, page by page, is where a large share of the budget on a custom site goes.
Number of unique layoutsTwenty blog posts share one layout and cost almost nothing extra. Ten pages that each look different are ten pieces of design and build work.
E-commerceProducts, cart, checkout, payment gateways, delivery charges, order emails and stock. An online store is a small software product, not a bigger brochure.

What does it cost to keep a website running?
The build is a one-time cost. These are not. Every website, however it was built, pays for the following every year — and a quote that does not mention them is not a complete quote.

These ranges are guides, not quotes. Domain, hosting and gateway prices are set by third parties and change during the year. Check the provider's current price before you budget — and check the renewal price, not only the first-year offer.
What does a website really cost over three years?
Judging a website by its build price is like judging a car by its down payment. A three-year view is more honest. Here is a worked example for a small business site on our Starter package, using mid-range running costs:

Two things stand out. First, over three years the running costs overtake the build — so the cheapest build is not automatically the cheapest website. Second, maintenance is the largest line if you outsource it, which is exactly why it is worth deciding on purpose rather than discovering it later.
For comparison, a hosted platform moves the cost from the build to the subscription. Shopify's Basic plan lists at $39 a month — $468 a year, or about ৳58,500 — before apps and transaction fees. Should you hire a freelancer, an agency, or use a DIY builder?
Freelancer
Often the cheapest route, and a good freelancer is excellent value for a simple site.

Costs more because a team is involved — designer, developer, QA and someone who answers the phone.

DIY builders such as Wix or Shopify's own editor look free and cost you time instead. They suit a first version of a simple idea. They are a weaker fit for a business that depends on its website, because you are renting the platform and working inside its limits.
Why do quotes for the "same" website differ so much?
Because they are rarely the same website. Before you compare two prices, check that both quotes answer these:
Who owns the domain and hosting?They should be registered in your name, with your email. If the developer owns them, you do not own your website.
Are the themes and plugins licensed?Pirated ("nulled") premium plugins are common in very cheap builds. They cannot be updated and are a frequent source of hacked sites.
Is it a design or a template?Both are legitimate. They should not cost the same.
What happens after launch?How long is support, what does it cover, and what does a change cost afterwards?
Do you get the keys?Full admin access, hosting login and a handover — not a site only the developer can edit.
The expensive website is the one you pay for twice. Most rebuild projects we take on are not old sites — they are cheap sites that could not be updated, were not owned by the client, or were never visible on Google in the first place.
What extra does an e-commerce website cost in Bangladesh?
An online store adds work a brochure site never sees, and most of it is local:
- Payment gateways. bKash, Nagad, SSLCommerz or aamarPay each need a merchant account, documents and an integration. Approval takes time, so start it early.
- Cash on delivery. Still how a large share of Bangladeshi orders are paid. Your checkout, order confirmation and return handling have to be built around it.
